It's national Picnic week here in the UK and we have been blessed with the ultimate week of sunshine in North Yorkshire! What are the chances?!
Picnicking is one of the UK’s most enjoyable summer traditions, whether it's in your garden or in your local open spaces, National Picnic Week aims to encourage everyone to take the opportunity to get together over a picnic, and we agree its a great way to spend some quality time with friends or family outdoors in the sunshine.
We created our Summer 2022 collection with the idea of celebrating al fresco and the joy of dining outside and celebrating the spirit of outdoor gatherings. Our inspiration was the warm sunshine and the beautiful parks and florals that surround us that we all have access too, and that we can all appreciate and enjoy on those sizzling summer days.
We chose Liberty of Londons Libby, Thorpe, Treasures and an exclusive Betsy colour way in 'sunflower' from Coco & Wolf for our chosen prints this season. We made sure these prints mixed perfectly with our Happy Linens for the ultimate feeling of Summertime.
Using our Crackers for special picnic celebrations or as gifts for members of your picnic adds another fun and extra special element to your day outdoors together. You can reuse and repurpose for other special occasions or for your next picnic! Happy Crackers aren't just for Christmas! We filled ours with mini drink tipples and delicious savoury treats that worked well alongside with our picnic.
Tips for a perfect picnic -
Location, Location, Location!
If you aren't setting up in your garden, when choosing the right spot for a picnic, we always consider finding a luscious grassy area with loads of space to play games and spread out. Always find a space that has natural shade so that you can take a break from the direct sunlight.
Purposeful picnicware
Remember when planning, dining outside is also about appreciating our environment, carefully consider your impact on the day and long after your picnic takes place. Consider using reusable plates, cutlery, cups and napkins. Having quality items that you’ll be using for many occasions for years to come will always be better for the environment. We chose iconic investment picnic pieces from Coco & Wolf, that didn't only look beautiful but can be used time and time again. We chose a blanket, basket, cushions and napkins from their outdoor collection.
Nibbles
A picnic is all about laying out dishes which you can all pick at and share that require minimum effort when hosting and tidying up. Salads and antipasti boards full of different cheeses, meats and breads - are perfect. We filled our crackers with assorted mini chutneys and wooden spoons for minimal mess. Don't forget the classic summer sponge and strawberries for afters! Do most of the preparation at home so you can dispose of any packaging thoughtfully.
Tipples
Pick a refreshing summer drink that everyone enjoys. We are big fans of Gin in the Summer so we also popped in some mini bottles of Gin into our Cracker canisters, we used non alcoholics spirit for those who were driving/don't drink. Our Cracker canisters are fully food safe and waterproof for any food and drink items. Make sure you stay hydrated with plenty of water too.
Fun and Games
Picnics normally last longer than your average indoor meal because who doesn't want to enjoy the sunshine with your loved ones all day! You may want to spend your afternoon lazing on a picnic blanket, but a few games really do make a picnic, a game of croquet, number Jubba or quoits will provide entertainment to last the whole day. Some chilled tunes will bring a nice atmosphere so don't forget to make a relaxing summer playlist.
Whether a picnic with family, an intimate affair for two or a large get-together with friends we absolutely encourage you organise a picnic this season (if you can't this week). A day full of fun and laughter, sunshine and fresh air really does make for wonderful memories.
Don't forget to fill your Happy Crackers - for a picnic like no other!
